A springtime meditation, from my heart to yours…
Sit comfortably in a quiet place and read the following blessing either in your head or out-loud three times. Next, close your eyes and receive it. Breath into a place of self trust and inner knowing. Acknowledge what comes up, if anything, as you explore what needs to be released to create space for a renewed sense of self.
Give me the death I need so that I can be reborn.
May I lovingly release that which I feel or know must die.
May I embrace endings and completions, for beyond death comes new life, lessons and opportunities.
May I surrender my clinging to my plan and past versions of myself so that I can create space for what is to come.
May I remember that life is fluid, parts of me and my life ever blossoming and falling away in a perfect perpetual cycle that is guided by a wisdom far greater that I can or need to understand.
How to Create Space for Renewal in Your Life
As we move through the transition from winter to spring, symbols of retreat, renewal and rebirth are all around. The earth is clever like this, she gives us visual reminders that help to bring us back to our own natural rhythms.
As temperatures warm, birds chirp, and flowers begin to bloom, I am reminded that life on earth unfolds in perfect symphony that is characterized by both light and dark, life and death. A garden cannot offer its fruits all year round, so why is it that we expect this of ourselves? All of life is characterized by a seasonally-induced shedding or retreat, which allows new life to emerge (us included).
To create space for what is to emerge within ourselves and our lives, we must shed that which we feel—intuitively, in our bodies and hearts—or know—intellectually, in our minds—is no longer in our highest and best good. This process can be seriously uncomfortable and even painful, yet it is all part of our journey toward greater ease and alignment with our gifts, talents and power.
There are things, people, and circumstances that we thrive in and around, and there are those that suppress our light. This is not about making anyone or anything good or bad, right or wrong, it’s about knowing ourselves and consciously choosing to say yes to that which lights us up and no to that which dampens our fire.
Sometimes, we get attached and overthink, and we take repetitive action or choose inaction around things, people and circumstances that smother our souls. This can create stagnation and lack of alignment between our outer action and inner knowing. We all do it, I do it. I believe that getting off course in life is part of the journey toward getting to know ourselves and growing, and sometimes something that once lit us up becomes weighty and all that is required are small tweaks to bring us back to our power.
This incongruity can last days, months, even years, and often does, but what a beautiful time of year to embrace the shedding process that is essential if we are to experience ourselves and our lives more fully. To do so, however, requires that we be with the inevitable discomfort that arises within when we purge. Aware of the primal urge to hold on to or run back to that which is familiar, yet blocking our ability to grow and share our unique gifts with the world. When we do this, we create space for the parts of us that must be reborn if we are to move into the next phase of our evolution.
Purging does not need to happen overnight or be extreme. As with any act of self-service and self-love, be gentle and patient with yourself. It could be a single habit that you feel is not serving you. It could be acknowledging a pattern to withhold what’s on your heart and initiating your rebirth by having a heart-forward conversation with someone you trust. It could be addressing that little voice inside that says you don’t have enough time or resources to sign up for that class or take that adventure you have been called toward. Release that habit for just one day at a time, have that conversation, schedule that adventure, and tenderly prepare yourself for the new life that will follow.
